Research, technological development, and continuous innovation are essential drivers of economic and social growth. At the University of Zaragoza, research activities are conducted through specialised research institutes that also offer doctoral, specialisation, and postgraduate programmes aligned with their areas of expertise. These institutes are largely interdisciplinary in both structure and focus. The University of Zaragoza comprises five in-house university institutes, four joint institutes, and one affiliated institute, with a total of 222 research groups operating within these institutes.
The Joint Research Institute in Energy and Resource Efficiency of Aragón (ENERGAIA) was established in 2009 as a collaborative initiative between the University of Zaragoza and the CIRCE Foundation. Its headquarters are located in the CIRCE Building on the Ebro River Campus of the University of Zaragoza.
ENERGAIA’s primary goal is to promote high-quality, cutting-edge research and technology transfer, advancing an energy model based on renewable energy, resource efficiency, and sustainability that meets societal needs. The Institute aspires to be a reference centre at the regional, national, and international levels, equipping society with knowledge (through research), technologies (through transfer and dissemination), and trained individuals (through education).
Since its founding, thousands of students from around the world have passed through the ENERGAIA Institute, producing hundreds of doctoral theses, research articles, and projects at the European, national, regional, and business levels.
